In Australia, the Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses are offered by TAFE colleges, universities, educational centres, and private RTOs- Registered Training Organisations. In all, the Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses take anywhere from 1-3 years for completion. And these courses in turn are considered equivalent to about 1-2 years of undergraduate level studies.
Both a diploma and advanced diploma are offered for courses that are of a practical nature than being absolutely academically oriented.
Advanced Diploma comes under Level 6 of the Australian Qualifications Framework. The advanced diploma course duration lasts for about 1.5 to 2 years.
Diploma comes under Level 5 of the Australian Qualifications Framework. The diploma course duration lasts for about 1 to 2 years.
An advanced diploma graduate will have a broad knowhow and skills and qualifies not as fully qualified but a paraprofessional. But the student is skilled and can enrol in graduate courses to further the learning process.
And the same holds good for a diploma holder as the individual gains specialised knowhow and skills and qualifies for work or further studying.
Minimum qualification to apply for a diploma or an advanced diploma course is at least Year 12 or its equivalent qualification. The minimum IELTS score for all international students is about 5.5.
